Story
Beau Bear Roffey
14th November - 16th November 2020
“The Beau Roffey Tribute Fund” has been set up in loving memory of our son Beau. We would love to honour his life by helping to look after and protect the lives of others.
Beau was born in Bath RUH where straight away he recieved fantastic care, love and help from Bath Nicu before being transferred to Bristol Hospital.
During my pregnancy I had absolutely no problems or concerns, and was very lucky to have such a healthy pregnancy. At just under 38 weeks pregnant I reported reduced movements and around 3 hours later Bath hospital preformed an emergency c-section and resuscitated our boy on his arrival alongside 2x blood transfusions. Although he initially picked up he later deteriorated and passed away 2 days later from a problem with his bowel.
During our time at bath Hospital - the team were so caring and loving, giving 100% attention to the babies in Nicu and their families. We feel in honour of Beau we need to give back to help other babies and loved ones too.
We have liaised with Bath NICO and they need a Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscope for the ward. This specialist piece of equipment is worn by the hospital’s Ophthalmologist to perform the delicate procedure of eye screening on tiny babies for a condition known as Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) which affects the blood vessels of the retina. The retina is a delicate tissue lining the back of the inside of the eye which detects light and allows us to see. After birth these blood vessels can sometimes start to grow abnormally and form scar tissue damaging the retina. Many extremely premature babies will develop some degree of ROP which usually resolves spontaneously, but a small number can develop severe disease. ROP is one of the few causes of childhood visual disability and is largely preventable and is dependent on screening.
The cost of the equipment will be £2,695.91 - which Dorothy house have already kindly donated £1500 towards. We would love to raise the remaining £1,195.01 towards it.
Beau has touched the hearts of our family, friends and wider community at Affinity. As such we would also love his memory to help better protect those around us by investing in a Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to housed at Affinity Wellbeing, Frome.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is one of the leading causes of death globally. In the UK alone, it kills more people than breast cancer or lung cancer, claiming the lives of 250 people every day.
SCA does not discriminate: it can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time, even elite athletes! Without immediate treatment 90-95% of Cardiac Arrest victims will die. Investing in an AED for our community will give a drastically increased chance of survival should the worst happen.
For this we need to raise a further £1,340.
Our goal target is £5000 with the additional money going directly to Bath Nico for them to spend as they should wish in memory of Beau.

3: Members Rich and Dale will be walking 130 miles in memory of Beau Bear Roffey, beloved son of Kat and Paul. This challenge has been inspired by the bravery, fortitude and strength shown by Kat and Paul after Beau Bear died at just a few days old. The route will see the duo leave Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire, journey along the canal tow paths and finish at Tower Bridge in London. Starting on the 29th ofSeptember at 18:00 the pair will aim to walk 65 miles a day, completing the gruelling challenge in approximately 52 hours. They are planning short rest breaks and aim to walk day and night to honour Beau Bear. Both Rich and Dale are members of Affinity, the gym and community run by Kat and Paul where people of all ages and fitness levels train together under the motto ‘Until Victory Always’.
If you could help in anyway we would be so grateful.
