Story
At the Newnham residents meeting on 6 June, we heard how the GCP Barton Greenway plans will seriously damage our environment by the removal of hedges, trees and planting all along the northern property boundaries of Barton Road (left side in picture). Pedestrians will be put at risk from fast-moving cycles. We are raising funds for legal advice on a challenge to the plans. An early indication would suggest the possibility of those living on the Northern side of Barton Road taking preventative action to protect their land. The works are due to start in August, so time is of the essence if we want to stop this. Please contribute whatever you can
Initial written legal advice will cost around £2100, and a pre-action letter a further £840. We are hopeful that just being able to tell the GCP that we have obtained legal advice will be enough to make them understand that we are taking this seriously and are prepared to fight. If the advice is positive, we will proceed to a pre-action letter. We will arrange a further residents' meeting before proceeding beyond the pre-action letter stage. Obviously each stage will have new costs, so we are hoping that we are able to resolve this without court action, but we will update this page at every stage to keep everyone informed.
