Story

Dan Barrington, CEO of Barrington James has volunteered to shave off all of his hair in aid of charity. We want to raise £10,000 to split across 4 global charities: Cancer Research, Alzheimer's UK, plus 2 Global Foodbanks supporting those in Singapore and the USA.

Dan said "Like many of us I had hundreds of Zoom calls last year. My last one before Xmas was with our Director of Europe. "Get your hair cut you scruffy *******" he said. "Raise 1K for charity by tonight and I'll shave it all off I said"

He did....

However both of us always up for a challenge we had a chat and spoke to the 'potential sponsors' and asked if they'd mind if we reneged on that bet. SO, I will shave all of my hair off on 4th Feb 2021 if we can hit a target of £10,000 to be split equally between 4 charities. For the record I don't want to shave off my hair, it doesn't suit my deformed head shape and will grow back grey I'm sure. But I'm up for a challenge and would really like to help these charities;-

PLEASE don't feel obliged to donate - I know people ask all of the time. If you are a colleague or friend DON'T feel you have to, but if you'd like to and can I'd appreciate it.

The charities are close to my heart and I'm sure yours too. Here lists an abundance of reasons as to why your donation will be extremely helpful and appreciated by so many.

Cancer Research:

In hospitals across the world, cancer patients have had vital appointments and treatments postponed. Clinical trials have been halted so that machinery can instead be used for Covid-19 trials, having a devastating effect on cancer research progress, and most importantly, the patients who would have benefitted from taking part in such trials. Millions of dollars could be cut from research funding, so this is a time when, more than ever, Your donations will provide counselling support to those needing someone to talk to. It will buy next generation DNA sequencing equipment. It will cover the cost of a trial. It will help get cancer research progressing as fast as we need it to.

Alzheimer’s Research:

Over 50 million people globally live with dementia, the majority of which are over 65 and live with other existing health conditions. This can mean they are at higher risk of developing infections and experiencing severe symptoms. Therefore, Covid-19 is not only highly likely to affect those living with dementia, but its effects on the economy have drastically affected research projects into the disease. Donations have fallen substantially and all funding for new research projects has been postponed. People living with dementia often feel isolated, and the concept of self-isolating on top of this, can be difficult to understand. By choosing Alzheimer’s Research as one of our charities, we are aiming to support the development of new research projects and provide additional support to those living with dementia around the world.

Global food banks:

More than 1/3 of the globe’s workers have become unemployed due to the effects of Covid-19. Combined with chronic hunger and rising poverty levels, the demand for food banks around the world has reached unprecedented levels. Our two chosen food bank charities provide much needed resources all around the world, including providing children and families despite supply chain disruptions and never seen before challenges brought about by social distancing and isolation rules. Your donations will support hundreds of families in need, it will keep food bank warehouses stocked, trucks on the road, and food assistance running to the most vulnerable populations of our communities.

So from a Zoom call to no hair.....

THANK YOU in advance for your donations!!!
