I've raised £2500 to help fund Bafo Establish his Farm!

A laid back, hard working, kind-hearted and friendly man, Bafo has been a friend of the Gambia Partnership since we first started visiting the country in 2004, he is currently a fisherman and that is how we met; he took some of us out fishing to catch Baracuda. Bafo is willing to offer a helping hand to anyone at any time however is now looking for a helping hand himself, to become self-sufficient as a farmer
As a fisherman Bafo struggles to make a consistent income as he is dependant on boats requiring fishermen, as well as fluctuations in tourist numbers and the catch itself. Bafo currently lives near the airport or on the Senegambia beach so he can fish at any opportunity he can, showing his dedication to earn a living.
Having lived far from his family village for many years and seeking to improve his living conditions Bafo would now like to acquire a plot to become a self-sufficient farmer. Without the upfront funds required to acquire the land, fencing, irrigation and seeds, Bafo has reached out to The Gambia Partnership for some help, to get him on his feet.
Bafo has a business plan in place where he seeks to grow fast growing and high-yield crops in the first couple of years, then re-invest his profit into his water system and higher earning crops such as papaya. We along with our friend Mike (who you will see in the photos and videos) will support Bafo throughout every stage of the process. Bafo is also keen to give back to the community and charity by sharing lessons learned with our
school gardeners in Kabakel and also has an aspiration to be able to employ some of his neighbours when the farm is creating a profit, re-investing the funds back into the local village.
