Story
‘Popsy’, Mr Colin Miller, 31st August 1936 to 28th March 2024 aged 87 years
It is with our utmost regret to announce the death of the Founder’s Father, Colin Miller, ‘Popsy’.
The Stroke Survivors Speech & Language Support Group was established in 2018 by his daughter, Liz Bedson after Colin survived a stroke which left him with speech, language, and communication difficulties. The Group was set up to empower stroke survivors to recover, reclaim and rebuild their lives after stroke. Our aim is to eliminate social isolation for people who are at their most vulnerable.
We give emotional support, assistance with wellbeing and the opportunity to make new friends with people who have experienced the trauma of a stroke. We also encourage essential trips/events/guests as part of a survivor’s wellbeing, future development, and social contact. Our provision is different to other groups as we provide a dedicated quiet location to enable our Survivors to hear and concentrate on engaging activities without interruption - an essential part of healing. The range of activities we deliver follow key guidelines that are found to benefit and encourage Stroke Survivors with their unique difficulties. We want them to feel that they matter and are valued as members of our community.
To commemorate Colin’s life and other stroke survivors who are no longer with us and who have used our 3 groups in Crewe, Sandbach and Alsager we are hosting a…..

Food & Entertainment,
Open Invitation and suggested Donation, minimum £10 each
Due to our Group receiving no statutory funding and the importance of this occasion we are asking if you could support this occasion by a donation of funds in remembering Popsy and other stroke survivors. We hope to invite the families that we have supported in the past along with our current survivors, friends, families, and other guests.
We really would appreciate your support in this momentous occasion and hope that you can send us a donation, however small. We would promote you on all our social media/website and local news and the opportunity to join us on the day to see how we support our survivors.
If you have any questions, then please do not hesitate to contact me on strokesurvivorgroup@gmail.com or 01270335061
