Story

Hello Everyone,

Thank you very much for visiting my just giving page. I woke up this morning (Sunday 24th May) and it was 'just another day in lockdown', although it was just like any normal day, I had an overwhelming sense of sadness.

I was sad, selfishly because I could not see my family and friends, I could not go on holiday, I had no big races or events to train for, and everything just seemed to be at a standstill. This feeling got me thinking about all the people I know in the local community, family and friends who have been severely affected financially and emotionally by the impact of Covid-19.

We have seen a lot in the news (rightly so), about supporting the NHS and the frontline, key workers and a large sum of money has been raised for the NHS Charity etc, but what about the individuals?

For example, there is a number of small businesses in our local community, dog walking is just one example. We rely so much on our dog walkers to be able to have loving pets whilst we go to work in normal situations and they haven't been able to work for 10+ weeks. A number of these businesses are now unfortunately likely to cease as they physically cannot afford to continue in the current economic environment. My sister is a social worker, she has a 3 and an 8 year old and she is out risking her life every single day to help young people in the community, meaning her children are also at risk and she is unable to spend the quality time with them she would love to have. My mother in law is a care worker, again she is working unbelievable hours risking her own health to ensure the elderly get all the care and support they need each day. These are just a few examples.

These people are the silent hero's, these are the people I would love to buy a bunch of flowers for, or give £100 too and say 'treat yourself', 'When this is all over, spend some quality time with your children'. These are the people who deserves small acts of kindness, just like they are showing so many others every single day.

This brings me swiftly on to my challenge, I cant do much other than run and unfortunately I do not have lots of spare cash to show my love and support to the people mentioned above, so I decided if I set a challenge of running 10 half marathons in 10 days (131 miles in total) I could potentially raise a small amount of money to spread some love and help others with a small act of kindness. Any money you can give no matter how small will go a long way, and I look forward to sharing with you all the small acts of kindness along the way....
