Story

As a wife and mother, to be told that your perfect family and life will one day be torn apart by cancer is something I thought would never happen to us, but it has, and it is devastating beyond words.

On 14th Jan 2017, my 46 year old, fit husband Anthony was diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney Cancer which had progressed to his lungs, liver and bone.

The shock and pain of that diagnosis was almost too much to bear, I experienced emotions that I didn't know how to cope with. But we have two amazing children, Jacob and Beth, and the love within our family for each other gave us the will to fight this dreadful disease.

Anthony, with me by his side, told Jacob and Beth that his kidney cancer was terminal.

We held onto each other like there was nobody else in the world, just us four.

Our whole family and friends have been devastated. Anthony is a well loved, popular sportsman, and coached a local youth rugby team. His fighting spirit has served him well over the last few months.

The tumour in his hip meant that he could only walk with the aid of crutches, but after responding to radiation treatment and with sheer determination he can now walk unaided and in June he walked 7km in aid of his local hospice Willowbrook.

Over the last 8 months Anthony has probably had every complication you can have with cancer treatment but he has not given up or complained. Anthony has been in our local hospice twice and many 999 calls later he is still finding the inner strength to keep on fighting.

Hope - yes we have lots of that!

On the NHS, Anthony has started on a new drug which is a form of immunotherapy, which he is responding well to, but this treatment is only buying him time, its not a cure.

From day one we have stayed positive and will continue to do so, and we have been researching different treatment options and unfortunately the NHS only offer palliative care. We know as a family we have to fight and we are ready for it as we have nothing to lose.

The world of medicine and treatment for cancer is progressing all the time, and we have been in touch with doctors in the USA and India and have been offered treatment outside the UK which could take Anthony's diagnosis from terminal to chronic. Initially this will cost approx £50,000 for treatment and flights, which is why we now feel that we need to reach out for help to fund this.

I have told my family and friends that one day I will write an book on how we beat cancer, please help us to achieve it.

much love the websters x
