Story
Another World Belfast have been providing essential need products to local people experiencing homelessness and hardship since 2017 and 2022 has been the biggest year of growth to date.
We have always worked to support the needs of existing charities, to lesson their loads by bringing practical support and tangible goods, such as toiletries and underwear to help them deliver front line services.
In our biggest and boldest project yet, we have created the ‘SHOW SOME LOVE FreeStore’. A free of charge clothing boutique, for women and the queer community, supplying great quality clothing, accessories, toiletries and personal items, in a beautiful environment, designed to put people at ease, let them express their true selves for the first time, or to find their way back to themselves after a traumatic event. We have partnered with local charities to provide this private, and judgement free space. By supporting this project the benefits are felt across multiple organisations supporting the needs of survivors of domestic abuse, human trafficking, refugees and asylum seekers, the trans community, as well as those who are struggling to make ends meet and receiving support from our partner charities.
We now have 2 rents to pay, as well as skyrocketing utilities and petrol, and we need staff to help us deliver our services to as many people as we can.
Connor and Becky worked on a full time voluntary basis for the first 4 years of their project until Jan 2022. They now recieve a wage for one week per month, and volunteer the rest of their time. Working an average of 50 hours a week. Currently they need to oversee all activities on both sites which is limiting the services they can offer.
They are beyond grateful for the invaluable support of their incredible volunteers but now need to be able to rely on the additional commitment and consistency of staff support.
We are grateful for any one off donations to help us grow and pay our bills, if you‘re in a position to make a monthly donation or would rather pay larger amounts directly into The Another World Belfast CIC Bank account to avoid fees, please get in touch with becky@anotherworldbelfast.com
