    Story

Forever remember the NHS workers who have died during the Covid-19 pandemic as - Angels of the Nation.

The NHS has lost 181 courageous souls in their frontline efforts to overcome the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. No words can ever bring them back but as a country we can come together to formally honour and forever remember them as - Angels of the Nation. This appeal is asking for your support to make 181 angels for the families who have lost their loved ones.

“We owe so much to the courage and dedication of our NHS staff. Working every day, they are risking their lives to save ours. For the families and friends who have lost an NHS worker, nothing can replace their loss but these angel statues are a poignant symbol of our gratitude. We will never forget.” - Ellie Orton, Chief Executive of NHS Charities Together

The first angel was presented to a family on 22nd September 2020 and as the appeal progresses and your support grows, more angels have and will continue to be gifted until we reach our target.

This beautiful angel sculpture was designed by artist Lucianne Lassalle. It is made of white marble resin, hand cast and hand finished in the UK. It stands 12 inches (32cm) tall and weighs 850g. It costs up to £140 to make and deliver each angel to a family.

This appeal was created by father and son, Paul & James Gilley, who believe this gift can provide some comfort to these families and honour the memory of their loved ones.

All funds raised go to the creation of the angels and any surplus will be donated to the NHS Charities Together.

We will never forget our Angels of the Nation. Thank you for your support.

Since creating this appeal on June 17th, the virus has continued to evolve and has remained a serious threat in all our lives. With a heavy heart, we have been informed by government that the death toll of healthcare workers has increased to 305 as of 13th January 2021. Our original target of £25,000 was based on the figure of 181, which was stated by the Prime Minister on 20th May 2020. Therefore we have decided to continue to raise funds so that we are able to gift an angel to every family of those lost - increasing our target to £40,000.

It has been just over a year since we launched our Angels of the Nation appeal, to honour the frontline healthcare workers who have died during the pandemic, and we wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported, contributed and given their time and services to making it possible. We are now over 80% towards our target and cannot thank you enough. Paul & James Gilley
