Story
Race to the Stones - 100Km run/walk
Training for this event has been a major challenge for myself as I have only been running and competing in events since September 2015. The constant training for this event has given its own set of tests working through injuries, illnesses and many high and lows, but this is nothing compared to challenges of those with Williams Syndrome.
Williams Syndrome is a genetic condition that is present at birth - it can effect anyone. Many children and adults face medical problems including cardio vascular disease developmental delays and learning difficulties. Most WS individuals have slight narrowing of the aorta valve, others more serious heart and vascular normalities.
Leo, is 16, and is one of 18,000 in the UK to suffer from Williams Syndrome. Since Leo was a baby he has undertaken over 40 anaesthetics and more than 20 operations and is facing more surgery soon to improve and prolong the quality of his life.
Leo is the life and soul of any party, always smiling and making others smile with him, he really enjoys music and any money raised will allow him to participate in his passion of music.
The funds raised will be split between Leo and the Williams Syndrome Foundation, who have helped Leo and his family.
The WS foundation is run by families for families and rely on voluntary donations to go into research and the welfare of WS people.

8 years agoLeo's surgery yesterday was a success in terms of increasing the blood flow to his brain. Today, not only have they managed to widen the artery to his left kidney, they have also managed to do the same to the right one. They didn't expect to be able to do the right one, they even prepared his family yesterday for the fact that he may at some point lose it. Leo is currently in intensive care in Great Ormond Street recovering from this pioneering surgery, we are thinking of Leo and his family and wishing Leo a speedy recovery xx 💕
