Burnley Bobcats swimming club would like to introduce their new fundraising charity for 2025....
ANDYS MAN CLUB
Each year the Bobcats choose a new charity and this year ANDYS MAN CLUB has been selected. All money raised will be split 50/50 between Bobcats club and ANDYS MAN CLUB.
Our first event will take place on Friday 21st March 2025, 18.30 @Padiham Pool in Burnley. This event will be a sponsored distance swim, similar to last year’s event. Your swimmer can set their own target with a little guidance from our experienced team of coaches. We will have distance badges and certificates available for purchase on the night. These achievement awards are available all the way up to 5000m. Last year we had over 10 swimmers achieving this amazing distance. Can we beat that total this year??
This is a fantastic opportunity for our swimmers to challenge themselves, meet others swimmers from our Bobcat community and also raise some much-needed funds for ANDYS MAN CLUB and our swimming club.
ANDYSMANCLUB are a men’s suicide prevention charity, offering free to attend peer-to-peer support groups across the United Kingdom and online. We want to end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and help men through the power of conversation. #ITSOKAYTOTALK
One of our brave Bobcats team had this story to share about their experience with ANDYS MAN CLUB; doing fantastic work to save lives every day.
I first attended Andy’s Man Club a few years ago when I was suffering from severe work-related stress caused by the unreasonable demands of line management at the time. Whilst trying to fulfil these demands I became ill, and the anxiety and stress started to affect my family life at which point I realised I needed some form of counselling to talk through and resolve how I was feeling. I was also suffering from grief after losing my Dad who I was very close to.
I attended Andy’s Man Club in Blackburn in June 2022; there was no pressure and no obligation to speak. The aim of the club is to provide men with a safe space where in time they feel comfortable to talk and open up about their experiences in a room free of judgement and a non-clinical environment. They firmly believe in the power of talking and that #ItsOkayToTalk. They are helping to break the cultural stigma surrounding men’s mental health in the UK.
The Club has free support groups nationwide, running every Monday from 7 pm except bank holidays. The groups are completely volunteer-led, with all group Facilitators having first sought help and guidance from Andy’s Man Club when they came through the door as a service user.
Attending the support groups regularly helped me in resolving my past issues and in January 2023 I became a Facilitator, by leading the sessions and offering guidance for others. In October 2023 I decided it was time to step down as I was in a positive mindset and content with knowing how to deal with any challenges or personal matters that presented themselves in due course.
