Story
Any of you who have known me for more than a couple of years will now that I am not a runner and never have been, I don’t have the physique and my knees are just not up to such punishment. But none the less I am pushing myself out of my comfort zone (normally an arm chair in front of the telly) to run the Lytham Hall Parkrun 5k for a very important and worthy cause.
James Doherty was eldest son's best friend at primary school and they remained good friends despite going to different high schools. In that time we also became firm friends with James’s family.
In August 2016 James tragically took his own life following a period of cyber bullying and a terrifyingly quick spiral into depression.
To create something good out of this tragedy and to keep James’s Memory alive his mum, Joanne, is setting up the charity ‘Doherty’s Destiny’ to raise awareness of the mental health issues causing the Increasing rates of suicide in our young people and to access local schools to help them to discuss the growing and devastating trend in cyber bullying. To become a Registered Charity she must raise £5000 in the first year and show that she can raise the same again the following year. After just a few months she is desperately close and so I hope to push things over the line with my efforts.
I hope that you feel able to support me in this most important of causes. Thank you.

8 years agoSo the deed is done my friends. I had originally said I would be happy if I came in under 45 mins, but with training going well I was hovering around 35 mins, so was hoping I could pull off sub 35 and would be well chuffed with that. Well the results are in and I managed it in 30:39!!! Made up with that and hope I've made James proud. Always in our hearts.

8 years agoOK folks. Final warm up run tonight at BW&F Athletics Club and Bob pushed us that little bit more as usual-round the park, past the Vic and on down to Fylde Coast hospital, turn down Grange Rd and run to the end and then back along Layton Rd/Collingwood Ave/Beach Ave and back tot he park gates. Another 5km under the belt and it felt alright, legs worked ok and I managed to sprint it in (well job faster than I had been doing). Thanks to the usual Wednesday night crew for keeping me going and a massive thanks to you all for your generosity.
