Iʼve raised £10,049 to To fund a life-size bronze bust of Wilfred Bion to be unveiled in the Bion room of the Institute of Psychoanalysis in London

    London
Funded on Monday, 8th July 2024

    Story

    Wilfred Bion

Wilfred Bion made a highly significant contribution to psychoanalysis. A member of a group around Melanie Klein he nevertheless has not been remembered with a bust. 2029 marks 50 years since his death by which time we hope to have set things right by having a bust commissioned and unveiled. Psychoanalytic trainings across the world have benefitted from incorporating Bion’s ideas for their trainees whether these be about individuals, groups or organisations. Bion did not care much for honours but we feel that a bust to remember him appropriately places him alongside Freud, Klein, Winnicott and his Kleinian contemporaries who are already celebrated with busts.

We are asking for donations for this commission of a life-size bust so that we can all honour Bion and his hugely significant contribution to psychoanalytic thinking.

The illustration on this justgiving page is a maquette - a much smaller cast than the bronze will be. As with this maquette, the actual bust will be moulded and cast by the internationally acclaimed sculptor Billie Bond MRSS SPS.

Thank you so much to our donators for your generosity. We have closed the page as we can now commission the bust and pay Justgiving’s fees. You have helped us ensure something remarkable will happen and Wilfred Bion will be commemorated in one way that other great contributors to our psychoanalytic thinking have been. Again, thank you. Bob and Andrew

I am sorry but there has been a miscalculation. When we set up this page I did not factor in the administration costs owing to justgiving. These have just come to light. We are going to need ot keep the page open until the target of £10,500 is reached. Once again, we are very grateful for your donations as we turn our heads now to look at the revised target.
