A year ago I set out with a goal of being able to run 5KM - this was the distance that I needed to be able to run to take part in a Park Run. So, I joined a local running group (#ChaselifeUK) and completed an 8 week walk to run course. Following this course I was able to take part in my first Park Run and I officially caught the running bug!
I have since been training to steadily increase my mileage, I have to date, ran 10 miles in one run. I have given myself a goal for May 13th 2017 to complete my first trail half marathon at Chillington Hall, Staffordshire. This will be a huge accomplishment for me, especially as i always snuck off during cross country at school and i couldnt run for 60 seconds this time last year!!!
I would like to raise money as i take part in my first half marathon (13 mile) because i know for me that it will be a tough race.
My church 'Open Heaven' is looking at raising funds to help purchase an orphanage in Kenya. The children that live there are nearly all HIV positive and do not have access to health care. The orphange currently pays £200 per month to rent the property and land. For just £12,000 the propety and land can be purchased, freeing up money to be spent on the environment & children. We will be raising money to pass onto the charity JIM International who will purchase the orphanage and have Trust members in the UK. The people who currently run the orphanage will continue.
I would love us to be able to purchase the orphange and make a difference to these kids who have lost everything. If people can only give £1 then even this will add up and it will go towards a great project.
I am hoping to travel to Kenya to visit the orphange at some point.
