Story

Alex is the 12 year old cat of our 92 year old neighbour. When she took in Alex after her previous owner abandoned her, she was a healthy moggy with a very loving personality.

The trouble began almost immediately, with Alex having the appetite of a small horse but losing weight at an alarming rate. It stabilised in the spring, but since late May it has been steadily falling, and at the time of writing this she weighs just under 1.7 kg. That's nearly half of what she should weigh.

Alex has an overactive thyroid condition, which means her body is unable to maintain a healthy weight. The more weight she loses, the weaker she gets. She's extremely thin and very ill, but she continues to fight. Left untreated, this condition can also lead to kidney problems and blindness. Without insurance and unable to afford the treatment and care that a poorly cat like Alex needs, her owner faced a heartbreaking decision.

However, there is hope for Alex and the opportunity for her to have a few more years with her loving owner. The Hyperthyroid Cat Centre in Wetherby, West Yorkshire offers revolutionary treatment for Alex's condition. A single Radio-iodine injection can actually cure this awful illness – the success rate is incredibly high at 99%!

This injection is expensive, so we are trying to raise money to fund Alex's treatment and care. Yes, it is a lot of money to raise for a poorly cat that might not make it through, but she is the most loving, friendly cat with a family that deeply cares for her and she deserves the best chance at life. As well as raising awareness for hyperthyroidism in cats, we are helping to save an elderly person's loving companion.

Please help us reach our target for little Alex's treatment. Any amount raised above this will be donated to help other cats receive treatment for this condition.

Thank you so much for your kind donation.
