Story
In 2016 a devastating storm hit Fiji, Cyclone Winston destroyed many lives and countless buildings. During the storm Urata's community hall was completely annihilated, leaving nothing but rubble. I am a third year architecture student at Newcastle University hoping to travel to Urata to design and rebuild this hub alongside Caukin Studio, the Jazmin Fund and the local residents. We want to create a safe space for women to hold meetings, sell crafts and conduct health checks in peace. To reconstruct the hub that once provided a sense of security but has since been destroyed. Community is so important to our personal well-being and to our collective sustainability. The more we work together the better our world becomes.

5 years agoLockdown has forced us all to be creative with fundraising so this is what I've come up with...taking your favourite photos and turning them into cool digital graphics. 5 years agoI want to thank you all so much for all of your generous donations! I really appreciate your support. Sadly, due to the recent Coronavirus outbreak we have decided to postpone the Urata Community Centre project until 2021. I intend to fill this year with lots of fun fundraising activities so watch this space. The Urata community have expressed their desire for the project to continue and are still in just as much need for a community hall and nursing station, if not more now Coronavirus has reached Fiji.
