Story
For the second time in two months, an earthquake has crippled Albania. The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude-6.4 quake, which struck just before 4 a.m. local time, had an epicenter 30 kilometers (19 miles) northwest of the capital, Tirana, at a depth of 20 kilometers (12 miles). Scores of aftershocks included three with preliminary magnitudes of between 5.1 and 5.4.
The quake collapsed buildings while people were sleeping. While emergency services are working to free people trapped in the rubble, the actual number of those affected or that remain buried in the rubble remains to be confirmed. So far, at least seven people have been confirmed as dead and more than 140 as injured. People are homeless and neighbourhoods have been destroyed.
UK Albanian Professionals (UKAP) is raising funds so we can help affected families with food, water and shelter. Funds will be directed to confirmed local charities where the need is greatest.
UKAP will ensure that funds are solely utilised for those in need any only where we receive the appropriate commitment and transparency, which will be shared with all donors in due time. Please get in touch with us with suggestions and questions through: ukap@ukalbanianprofessionals.org
Whatever you can contribute will make a big difference to the families facing hardship in the immediate hours after the earthquake and in the coming days as they try to rebuild.
Thank you for your generosity and humanity in this time of need.

5 years agoDear all, Thank you for your most generous support. We are now reviewing the options to direct our funding. So far, these are: 1. rebuilding a house for an affected family with significant support from 4M group and a building company in Kosova; 2. splitting funds for different charities and purposes (ongoing relief; psychological support; educational work with children; 3. providing direct economical assistance to affected families. Please get in touch with questions/suggestions: ukap@ukalbanianprofessionals.org Thank you UKAP

5 years agoSadly, the number of those fatally affected by this devastating earthquake and of those injured keeps rising. Sadly, the tremors also continue shaking the country and making it more difficult for emergency services and the hundreds of volunteers to help. In the face of this devastating natural disaster, the response and donations from hundreds of people across a number of fundraising campaigns has been amazing. Albanians and other kind people from across the world, joined from sheer humanity, stand united in offering their support. Thank you
