Story
We are supporting a number of causes in memory of our beloved Alana, who died on 25th July 2019 as a result of the anti-malaria drug Doxycycline that she was taking.
In Madagascar we have directly helped the villagers of the region where Alana was staying. It is an extremely poor region, and for the villagers to leave their farms and spend 10 days searching for her was extraordinarily generous. In 2022-23 we rebuilt the dilapidated school in Amboaboaka, which means that none of the children will need to have lessons outdoors as was previously the case.
Also in Madagascar, we have contributed to three projects which support and develop education on an ongoing basis: the 'Education for Life' programme, Fara sy Dimby school and Boriziny (Port Berge) school. This now gives our activities in Alana's name an operational as well as construction focus.
In the UK we have set up a bursary at Alana's university home, Robinson College, Cambridge. This is specifically for the benefit of female students studying science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) subjects, something that we know Alana would have thoroughly approved of.
Every small donation has and will make a difference; thank you. We will continue to post periodic updates from our projects, below.

9 days agoThe new classroom at Boriziny (Port-Bergé) school is finished! A message from our contact there: "This is Alana's memorial classroom now in use. This is such a huge step forward for the Lycée. The headmaster has asked me to convey the thanks of all who use it to you and all who subscribed. It has been built in a way that it can take another storey when there are funds to progress the work. There are now 720 pupils in the school, and whilst they should really limit the numbers they say they haven't the heart to turn children away!"

Kitchen gardens and orchards will provide fresh produce for meals and also serve as agricultural training sites. Teachers will benefit from specialised training designed to improve the quality of education, while parents will be empowered through literacy, numeracy, and business skills training, alongside sustainable agricultural practices.
