After serving thirty years in the Fire Service I retired in March 2022, unfortunately in February 2023 I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. I can now look back and see that I had symptoms for several years. Parkinson's is something I had considered but nothing can prepare you for a definite diagnoses. Initially I struggled to process and come to terms with my diagnoses, believing that my life would spiral out of control immediately. After months of support and care from family friends and the Parkinson's Community, life now feels positive again. At present there is no cure for Parkinson's Disease but it is proven that with constant exercise and well managed medication symptoms can be reduced.

I would like to raise funds for both Parkinson's UK and The Fire Service Charity, which have already offered support and will continue to throughout this journey. My aim is to climb Scafell Pike, this is something I attempted with a small group of fire fighters twenty-five years ago but unfortunately due to injuring myself while climbing I wasn’t able to finish the challenge. I am now determined to complete this challenge with my sons and some of the original team while I still have the ability.

Parkinson`s UK offer support seven days a week, speaking to nurses, advisers, zoom meetings and so much more. The Fire Service Charity offers physical mental and practical support to serving and retired Fire Fighters and their families.

Funds raised will be paid directly to me and I will divide the money between the two charities.
