We all try to make a difference in our lives whether for family or others.

Recently I spent 3 weeks volunteering at a nursery for homeless and deprived children of Mbau-da, Tanzania. The nursery is self funded by Salimu Sangali supporting 60 children from the ages of 18 month to 5 years old.

The nursery provides a safe environment for these troubled children, providing an education, clothing and a daily meal of hot porridge, which in many cases is the only meal of the day for the children.

I raised over £900 pounds through the Justgiving platform, which was used during my visit to provide:

a) The building of a wooden walkway to protect children, staff and parents from stangant and infected water.

b) Providing fruit on three occasions, where fruit is out of reach for most parents due to the cost.

c) Purchase of a 120L water tank to provide the children with clean drinking water.

d) Building of tables and benches to enable safe eating of daily porridge at 1100

e) Purchase of a smart TV to enable access to teaching and education materials

f) Presentation of IT equipment, laptops, tablets, phones kindly donated.

While my visit made a difference to the Children and Teachers, Salimu dreams of building a new school outside of the city where costs are lower and the school and pupils can be self sufficient by managing power, water, growing crops, farming animals.. The cost will be a minimum of £30000 pounds for the land and build.
