    Story

Thank you all so much for your generous donations! Please direct all further money to https://justgiving.com/campaign/KHARPP so that we can receive GiftAid.

on Thursday 10th March, I travelled to the Ukrainian/Polish border in order to volunteer as a translator here. It quickly became clear that i would be doing much more than translating, and a lot of the things I would be doing would require cash. These include, but are not limited to, buying people train tickets (whilst refugees are entitled to free 2nd class train tickets, if 2nd class is full then they have to buy 1st class ones. Furthermore, non-Ukrainian citizens who have fled Ukraine are not eligible for free tickets), buying people wheely suitcases (many have arrived with their life's possessions in plastic bags), getting people warm clothes, underwear etc (I know people are donating these, but the immediate need means that often one cannot wait for shipments to come through and be organised), and even something as simple as buying someone a nice non-instant coffee after they have arrived at the train station, so they can sit and decompress.

I want to make it very clear that the money will NOT be used to fund my stay here, or anything like that. Every penny will go towards the immediate needs I see on the ground, and if, when I leave in 6 weeks, there is money left over, it will be passed onto other volunteers who are staying.

thank you all so much. thus far today i've bought £280 worth of water, juice, and snacks for the railway station, coffees for refugees I met throughout the day, a ticket on a coach to Krakow for one babusja when the train she had wanted to get was full and she couldn't be guaranteed a seat, and coach tickets to Italy for a mum and daughter. free tickets are provided to Ukrainian citizens, but the level of demand is insane, and being able to get people quickly en route to their next destination makes a tremendous difference. Слава Україні!
