Story
Basia and Sarah are challenging themselves to complete a year of fundraising activities for their individual causes. Read their stories and details of upcoming challenges below:
Sarah: I lost my wonderful Dad & Mum in recent years both to heart related conditions and I am fundraising through completing a 'year of challenges' in their memory.
I work at Moorfields Eye Hospital and never fail to be amazed by the determination of so many of my patients who overcome their sight loss and get on with their lives so positively, but access to activities and adventures can be difficult for some.
My future ambition is to become a sighted guide, supporting people with sight loss to participate in swimming, cycling & hiking adventures, & in so doing, become more active, live healthier lives & reduce the risk of heart disease.
Basia: In 2017, I lost a very dear friend, Mungo, to undiagnosed heart disease at the ridiculously young age of 48. In his memory, I and some close friends of his created a fundraising hub which we named Mungo King of Hearts, to buy and install community defibrillators, and we set about raising money. One particularly memorable event involved canoeing/wild camping 100 miles along the river Wye, which Mungo loved.
To date we have bought and installed three defibrillators. The plan is to continue this work, creating a lasting legacy and, hopefully, saving many lives.
