Story
I am starting a fundraiser for one of my family members, 5year old Abbie who has devastatingly been recently diagnosed with Juvenile Batten disease Type 3.
Abbie started School last year in August and as like all children was excited and settled in well however after 3 /4 weeks Abbie’s teacher had noticed Abbie was having difficulty reading. Abbie’s parents immediately booked an appointment with the optician and got her eyes tested to find there was no issues, however provided her with glasses to try for 5 weeks to see if this helped her eyesight any. Unfortunately there was no improvement.
Abbie was referred to see an eye specialist in Aberdeen Sick Children’s hospital where she underwent Scans and Various other tests and after 8 weeks has devastatingly been diagnosed with Juvenile Batten Disease type 3. Abbie’s parents have been told by doctors her life expectancy is to reach her teens and although she has already lost some of her sight it will continue to deteriorate rapidly. She will also lose the ability to walk.
Abbie’s Mum, Dad, Brother & Sister would love to be able to take Abbie on a dream holiday to Disney Land Florida when she is still able to see and walk.
Just a little bit of info on Juvenile Batten disease: Batten disease is a cruel condition that attacks healthy children and removes their ability to walk, talk, swallow, and see whilst causing uncontrollable seizures and movement disorders. Children with Batten disease cannot make an enzyme responsible for eliminating waste that builds up in the brain. Eventually, children with Batten disease become blind, tube fed, completely dependent on others for all their needs and unable to communicate.
I would like to do some fundraising to help Abbie’s parents Ben & Danielle make this wish come true. I am trying to fundraise as much money as possible.
Would you be able to make a contribution too by donating,
Thankyou very much, every little helps!
