Thankyou for stopping by my page. I will be running a 10k run on Saturday 9th September 2023, in the hope to raise money to a cause close to my heart- Genocost (Congolese Genocide Commemoration Day which takes place every year on 2nd August ). This campaign began 10 years ago in 2013 by Congolese Action Youth Platform, CAYP,(based in London) who for the past 10 years, have tirelessly campaigned for the Congolese government to recognise and officialise the 2nd August, to remember, honor and commemorate the lives of over 6 million Congolese lives that were killed due to the 2nd war that began on 2nd August 1998 lasting 5 years and claiming the lives of innocent citizens, mothers children, fathers. This atrocity, a forgotten genocide,devastated the whole country and the effects are still felt and seen today across the country. Over the past 10 years we have campaigned for the recognition at a national level and international level and for peace and stability to this country, heralded as the heart of Africa due to its vast and richness in natural resources.
This year finally the Congolese government officialised this date but there is still much work to be done. CAYP are self funded and rely on donations from its own members and kind individuals. Your funds will help us to teach and equip and support Genocost ambassadors across the country, build key memorial sites/monuments, produce educational such as books, film/documentary, Print and make more Genocost T-shirts and so much more!
