Story

Help Five Sisters Zoo build a home for Yampil, a 12-year-old Asiatic black bear who survived the war in Ukraine.

Named after the Ukrainian village he was rescued from, Yampil, the 12-year-old Asiatic black bear was found in an abandoned zoo in the most appalling conditions after the region was liberated after five months of Russian control.

Out of nearly 200 animals at the zoo, Yampil was one of the few zoo animals that survived the devastation with many sadly losing their lives to the war attacks and harsh conditions. Some were even believed to have been killed and eaten during the Russian occupation.

This is a truly horrific story, but one we are determined to make sure has a happy ending.

Yampil arrived at Five Sisters Zoo on Friday 12th of January where he will live in a temporary enclosure until the completion of his permanent enclosure this spring. To make this possible we need your help. With just over £70,000 raised of our £200,000, we have set up this Just Giving page as another means for people to donate.
