Story
Voice4Parents Voice4Parents is a voluntary Parent Carer Forum - We work alongside Wolverhampton Local Authority and Clinical Commissioning Group informing and influencing services in Wolverhampton for SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) families, children and young people.
All of our 997 registered members are Parent Carers of at least 1 Child or Young Person with a disability - Many have 1+ SEND Child, and some are Disabled themselves.
Families speak of an “ordinary life” doing “normal things” together as a family, but this isn’t always possible, this impacts families and their wellbeing.
Families are frustrated by the lack of inclusive and accessible leisure facilities, causing separation and resentment within families when siblings may freely access leisure or are unable to because their sibling with SEND would be left out causing massive isolation.
It's important that families feel included/have social interaction, many parents feel that their children don’t get this opportunity.
Families have frequently explained to us how Isolating it is having family members with a disability and many with complex needs and the Impact of this isolation on their mental health and the mental health of their children and young people and further family members
We hope to raise funds to continue with leisure opportunities we have offered over the past couple of years. This includes activities over Summer Holidays/Christmas Holidays 2024 providing SEND accessible/appropriate Leisure. We want to offer activity packages for all our members/SEND Families in Wolverhampton. Over the past 12 months we have coordinated Wolverhampton LA Short Break SEND leisure programme and this has informed our offer which generally comprises of Animal Therapy, Sensory Play, Arts and Crafts; Cinema; Soft Play; Archery and Climbing, Dance; Yoga for all ages and a Christmas Pantomime.
Anything you can offer - No matter how small will be greatfully appreciated.
