    Story

Since February 2022 we have been working to support familes and childred in Ukraine directly. We have not completed 4 visits and currently in the process of planning our 5th journey in October 2023.

We raise money through a number of ways, fundraising in the pub itself, charity nights, quiz nights, donations from local residents and businesses.

Trip 1 - we collected a large number of donations at the pub, consisting of food, sleeping blankets/bed, baby supplies, hygiene product, medical supplies, plus a selection of kids toys, games and sweets. We then used the funds we raised to hire a large luton van and drove this all the way to the ukarine border with poland to meet an aid working who arrnged its transportation into Lviv for distribution to the surrounding shelters. We then also funded the local aid workers with a sum of money which was used for fuel to keep their vans on the road in and out of ukarine. Stenna ferries also donated us a free crossing saving us over £800

Trip 2 - Myself and dave purchased our own flights to poland and hired a small car. We drove to the border to meet with Wendy, who is a midwife from the UK and Ewan a field medic. With their help, we purchased a full pallet of food which was distributed to a shelter near lviv, plus 2 washing machines in poland which we loaded into a vehicle and took over the border. These were taken to a shelter housing a number of people who had lost their houses on the east of ukraine. While there, we also visited a local hardware store in the town of Mostyska to purchase some kettles, hardware suppliers and a TV aeria, which we wired up and hung in a tree outside so they could start use their communial television.

Trip 3 - Again, myself and dave prucahsed our flights and met with Ewan & Wendy, and we all traveled into ukraine to Lviv. We met with Dr Oskana and Dr Yasser, to help with the supply of some front line medical supplies. The next day we visited a new shelter that had been purpose built and run by Alex in the Lviv region. They housed over 20 familes with children, and we supplied a number of toys and games for the childred and some essentials for the parents. Later we visited a shelter in a church, south of Lviv, mainly mothers and children. Crazy, these kids went wild when we arrived with toys, games and sweets.

Trip 4 - The longest visit yet. We recevied a large donation from a local business which was used to purchase a mini sized skoda which we planned on driving into ukraine ourselves as wendy and ewan was both going to be in the UK. They both travelled down to Ruddington to bring us a number of urgent medical supplies and welfare items to take with us in the car and deliver to Father Lukaz ( a local polish priest in the Mostyska region ) who works closly with them both on the distribution of supplies and the care of the local shelters.

Myself and Dave funded our own accommodation on route and raised funds to support the fuel costs.. We travelled over into France by Eurostar and began our epic drive to Lviv. 1350 miles in total. We dropped off the supplies and then visited our local shelters and provided them with some much needed food and essentails which we purchased in ukraine and a Macro wholesale outlet. We aided 25 familes with children at the main shelter. The next day we had a long and intersting drive to Kiev via a town called Korosten to meet with the yeleonfund team who had set up a safe house for people who had to flee after the dam bust and they lost everything they owned. Again we visited a local supermarket and provided food and essentials. We then contined to Kiev to drop off some body armour to a front line feild medic from canada who has just arrvied and would be working with Ewan from Reactaid.

We then made our way over 2 days back to the border with poland and met with Father Lukaz, and handed him the vehicle. The car is still in ukraine now and being used to help transport suppliers and people between shelters and in and out of poland.

On this trip we took with us some loom wrist bands made in the colours of the Ukraine flag. These had been made by a local child called Lilly from our village, for us to hand out to the childeren at the shelters. You can see this in the profile picture for the just given page.

OUR AIM : to raise enough funds to be able to go back into Ukraine, visit all the shelters we have been working with and get them stocked up with as much as possible before their winter really kicks in. We will have acces to our vehicle while there, are we are planning a 4 day visit. That should allow us to be able to complete the delivery of aid to 5 different shelters. Again myself and dave will purchase our own flight, catch a train to the border and cross over on foot to meet with Father Lukaz to receive the car.

I have attched a number if photos showing the work we do.
