Story
Making it as a professional cyclist is very difficult unless you are on the British Cycling Elite programme. Yet, there are hundreds of promising young athletes who are the potential stars of the future working hard to bring their dreams to reality.
The Dave Rayner Fund helps provide financial assistance to those young riders who are showing great promise and gives them racing experience abroad.
Former funded riders who have made it include Dan Martin, David Millar, Hannah Barnes, Nikki Brammeier (nee Harris), Tao Geoghegan Hart, Yanto Barker, Ian Stannard and Adam Yates amongst a long list.
In September 2018, along with 7 day cycling distance world record holder - James Golding - I will ride the entire OVO Energy Tour of Britain one day ahead of the actual race to raise funds and awareness for the Dave Rayner Fund to give these future young riders their pathway to future success.
If you watch cycling by the road or on the television, this is an opportunity to give something back to the sport.
Over 1,5M people have been stood by the side of the road watching events in 2017, for free. If everyone gave £1.00, it would fundamentally change the fabric of the sport.
We'd like to encourage 10,000 people to donate £5.00 or more towards our challenge, the price of a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. That donation will go directly to these future stars and help secure the sustainability of talent within the sport.
