On the 21st August I completed an Ironman triathlon in Copenhagen (3.8km swim 180km Bike 42km run). By luck / fate / divine intervention or just random chaos, I ended up qualifying for the World Championship Ironman Finals in Hawaii on October the 8th.

This is rare, very rare. People devote their lives to qualifying. My club of 350 members has sent 9 amazingly talented athletes over the last 11 years. This year there will be 11 Brits in my age group all a hell of a lot fitter than me.

So the race is 2500 of the world’s fittest athletes (and me) doing the world’s toughest Ironman in 30c heat and 90% humidity. It’s going to be quite hard……

In March this year my dad, Robert passed away after suffering a severe stroke 4 years ago.

I want to use this opportunity to raise money for the Physiotherapy department at the Princess Royal Hospital, who helped treat Dad. After his stroke, Dad was paralysed down one side and unable to walk, get out of bed or get into a chair. One of the first steps in his care was getting him out of bed and into a chair. It is so small but so important for the patient and family that some tiny resemblance of “normal life” is achieved. Unbelievably the chair my father used was not provided by the NHS but by donations from people like you. I will be running, cycling and swimming in order to raise money to buy another of these life-changing chairs. Please help me make a difference. By purchasing one of these chairs we can make lives better.

Here’s a picture of the chair I would like to purchase and a picture of dad just a few we
