Story
You are fund raising for me, St Tewdric, Tower.
My Vicar says "these funds will secure the tower's future for the next 100 years. Our tower was originally built in the 1400s and is a precious part of our local history. We currently have a wonderful group of bell ringers but once the tower has been made secure, we hope to invite the community and our local children to explore the wonder of this unusual and special skill - as well as enjoy the fantastic views from the top of the tower! Our church is much loved by our village and we are so pleased that this grant will enable us to keep it open and available for the local community for years to come.
I (the tower) hold a peal of six bells, tuned to A flat, and cast in Chepstow by one William Evans at his works in Welsh Street in 1765. They have their own messages cast into them; “Come let us ring for God and King'’, '‘Prosperity to this Parish'’, '‘Peace and good neighbourhood'’, '‘Wm Evans of Chepstow cast us all 1765'’, '‘Rich’d Lewis Churchwarden'’, '‘Edward Davies A: M: Prebendary of Llandaff. Vic: Laus Deo WE 1765'’.
On my outside southern face, I have an old and mighty sundial but it needs your help to get it back to its former glory. It is world-famous, and members of various sundial admiration societies come from afar to see the hours told in Greenwich Time [railway time] exclusively upon the one dial face.
I also have some very complicated but pretty stone windows that need fetteling and I am loosing my figure.
My lines need sharpening and I have a few holes that need filling. My flag staff is feeling a little insecure but likes to display the church seasons & celebrations.
Pleaae helo me to restore my figure so that I am here for years to come for the local community & the bell ringers & historians far & wide
