Story
We live, breath and exist solely for the purpose of saving as many beautiful ex race horses as we can! These amazing horses deserve a second chance regardless of injury or temperament. We rehome where we can but if we don’t feel that a horse is going to be happier with a new home, they are welcome to stay with us for the rest of their lives simply being a herd member. We love them for the individuals that they are. Each horse gets as much time as they require, no pressure, no judgement.
WE NEED YOUR HELP. Please donate and support us as we continue our life’s work.
The Spirit of Hope Equine Sanctuary, based in Quendon, Essex exists to provide a haven from harm for ex race horses. Our mission, is to help as many horses as we can, have the best quality feed, shelter and grazing as possible. We have turned a derelict scrap of land into a safe haven, putting up new stables, fencing and a menage / welfare paddock to allow our rescues to relax and unwind.
We have done this through donations from businesses and individuals who wish to support us in our efforts to save as many as we can. We have taken in many horses who are not able to be rehomed due to injury or phycological traumas. We work hard to provide each horse the individual love, care and attention they require.
With regular farrier, dental, nutritionist visits, our horses are well cared for and we offer no judgement or expectation to “work” for there place. As far as we are concerned they have all done their bit and are well deserving of a rest.
We are in desperate need of financial support from as many people as possible as the costs are enormous and ever rising. Our menage was not build properly as such floods, retains water and is not safe for the horses to walk on. This will be the next big project along with repairs to fencing and making the fields safe by the removal of the sycamore that plagues us here.
It is important to note that every single penny donated goes directly to improving the sanctuary, covering costs of feed and medical bills. We do not make an income from this and your donations will 100% go to the horses here. We are trying to attain charity status but this will take time as our first application has been denied as were not the best at completing the complex paper work involved.
Please help us by donating and sharing our story with as many people as possible, it is within your power to really make a difference to these animals and we are counting on the good will of people to allow us to complete our life’s work.
