Story
No one should ever have to deal with the loss of a baby but sadly it is something that is way too common. Unfortunately it was something we had to go through. Losing Skye was one of the most difficult times of our life but I couldn't have got through it without the support from Kingston Hospital.
After going through this myself I feel there is alot more that could be done to help parents cope with the loss. Support groups, counselling, even things like the planning of the funeral, additional daisy room (special room allowing you time with your baby away from the labour ward) and much much more. All these things cost money that no family should have to pay for.
Our aim is to set up a charity in Skyes name to support Kingston hospital with their work with bereaved families. The long term goal is to set up a charity big enough to support families nationally.
We first found out that Skye was not going to make it at my 12 week scan. She was a part of an identical twin pregnancy, with her sister Callie. The doctors informed us that Skye had a condition called Anencephaly and that no baby had ever survived this, it was impossible. We made the decision to continue with the pregnancy to give Callie a fighting chance, although it was high risk, we wanted to try.
At 30 weeks pregnant, 10 weeks early, I went into labour. On the 30th April 2016 my beautiful girls were born weighing 2.3lb and 2.8lb. Callie was rushed to intensive care and we got to spend 3 amazing hours with Skye before she passed away. When Skye passed it felt like my world had ended, even though I had Callie, my heart was broken.
I had had 7 months to prepare for this and still the pain was unimaginable. At this moment I decided I needed to help families in a similar position. If that's how I felt knowing it would happen, how do people cope when it's not expected??

We set up The Skye High Foundation in memory of our daughter. We have since created the Purple Butterfly sticker, which is meant to be placed on an incubator to let people know when a baby in a multiple pregnancy has passed away Our interview on the BBC: http://bbc.in/29nxPWR
