Story
In Feb 2016, Scott Robert Hawksworth , was finally diagnosed with a rare form of Motor Neurons Disease.
He first developed symptoms in Sep 2015, but until he had this diagnosis , only had access to a Red Cross supplied wheel chair.
During that time he lost the use of his left hand , arm and then leg .
Post diagnosis he had access to numerous machines to give him a quality of life but they did not give him a normality of life .
Scott did not see his failing motor functions as a limiting factor to his life , rather something to worked around.which he did in spades .
Scott was an intelligent , inquisitive and happy teenager who liked video games , talking with friends , cars ,engineering and despite his rapidly limiting ability he managed to achieve these things ,but as he was losing the use of his remaining hand he researched methods of doing things 'hands free' , and found it by means of an IIgaze computer byTobii.
This eye tracking computer, which he managed to secure a trial of , with the help of Occupational Health Services, fully restored his independence.
Scott used this computer to design models via CAD program , some of which were even printed , talk to friends , and continue to be a normal teenager
When he talked with friends he never revealed the severity of his condition despite helping them with theirs , and his passing came as a shock to many of them.
Scott had wished that 'his ' computer go to St Elizabeth's Hospice to give others the same opportunity .
We are seeking to secure a second hand machine , but if unable to , need to raise the £12000 to buy a new machine .
Any funds in excess of those required to obtain a computer , will go to other charities , such as the Make a wish' foundation , Marie Curie , whose nurses did an incredible job caring for him at night during his final months and 'Special Effect' who supplied modified games and controllers for disabled gamers
