Story
What is Samantha fundraising for?
I have been invited to attend and present at an international conference about linguistics and I need your help to get there! It is a crucial step to kick-start my dream career in academia as a linguistic researcher.
How was Samantha invited?
I attended my first ever conference back in April (2017) at the Undergraduate Linguistics Association of Britain, having applied to submit a poster and being invited to do a presentation! I was absolutely thrilled and it was an adventure travelling to the University of Cambridge to present at the conference. It went very well indeed.
At the end of my presentation, I was approached by an professional academic who invited me to present at an international conference, SymPol10 (10th International Symposium on Politeness). I will be presenting in front of accomplished academics and researchers, as opposed to just students. The conference spans several days - 12th-14th July - and will no doubt be a crucial step for my future career as an academic/researcher in linguistics (English Language). However, as a student the cost for the entry fee, train travel, accommodation, and food over the period of the conference amount to quite a considerable amount!
What can you do to help?
Being able to receive partial funding from the University of Birmingham, I need to make the difference of a further £300 to enable me to attend the conference. It is a crucial step in launching my career as an academic. Therefore, I need your help. I ask my friends, family, and people further afield to please donate and help me achieve this goal! Thank you.
