Im running the Wirral 10k on September 11th to raise funds for the Friends of Birkenhead Kennels.

Friends of Birkenhead Kennels (FOBK) was formed in 2011 in response to a massive public petition after the Council announced it was to close the kennels.

When they heard about the proposed budget cuts, they took the opportunity to raise another petition asking the council to keep the service on the Wirral. In less than two weeks, they got more than 7,200 signatures. That’s more than 2% of the adult population of the borough which is remarkable.
Thanks to the support of the general public including support at fundraising events and many generous donations, they have been able to help with:

*providing costly equipment
*providing costly equipment
*provision of vital veterinary care,
*the costs of necessary environmental improvements,
*promoting the re-homing programme
*training volunteers to set up a volunteer dog walking scheme
*opening Lead Me A Stray, a pet shop based within the kennels

After a lot of hard work and negotiation, they were very pleased to be able to tell everyone that, as from December 1st 2014, Friends of Birkenhead Kennels had taken on the contract for running the kennels.
