I've raised £5000 to help fund The Richard Mayne Foundation

The 17th July 2024 marks the 10 year anniversary of the downing of the MH17 aircraft in 2014. My fiancé Scarlett sadly lost her cousin, Richard Mayne, to the tragic event. Richard’s life was cut short whilst he was travelling from Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam to Perth, Australia for a year abroad studying, after completing his second year at Leeds University where he was a passionate rugby player and an amazing friend to many.
To mark his and the other 297 passengers’ memories, I will be running from Richard’s hometown rugby club, Market Bosworth in Leicestershire, to the MH17 Memorial in Vijfhuizen, near Amsterdam in The Netherlands. The run will take four days from 13th - 16th July, totalling 280kms and averaging 70km a day.
I will be raising money for the Richard Mayne foundation. Richard lived with Type I diabetes and the foundation’s principal aim is to contribute funds for a one week outdoor residential course for young people with Type I diabetes in Leicestershire. Another goal is to support young people with Type I Diabetes on adventurous activity where the control of their insulin levels would be challenging.
