In 2008 Alfie Harris was born, so perfect in every way. Little did we know that he had the genetic disorder Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a fatal muscle wasting disorder. This diagnosis came when he was 7 months old, with the devastating news we would be likely to lose Alfie before he reached 2.

Against all odds, our amazing, brave boy turned 8 in March, attends mainstream school, has his own you tube channel, "Red Arrow Alfie", and despite his paralysis, has just enough control of his head following a major back operation earlier this year, and his fingers when positioned to be able to do the only thing he can do and enjoy, playing computer games.

7 years of countless hospital stays fighting off infections, 3 house moves to be able to accommodate his needs, and we find ourself fighting continuously to make his life better. Following 13 days in hospital, our night care has been suspended until we remove Alfie's computer station from his room, to enable carers to have access to both sides of his current bed to enable them to use a new sleep system. His current bed is currently too big for him, and for his room and despite requests for a smaller bed we have been refused. To remove Alfie's only love of life from him is heartbreaking and will be the last resort, if we are unable to fund him a new bed which meets his needs.
