Iʼve raised £5,445 to help Jean Thorpe Wildlife Rescue rehabilitate raptors and other wildlife by running a Half Marathon on 28th April!
- Funded on Sunday, 16th June 2024

Story
Here in Yorkshire, Jean Thorpe is a hero to many (including me) and a saviour of our wild birds in desperate need of rehabilitation. She voluntarily gives everything to nurse an ever-increasing cast of injured raptors and other wildlife, often victims of persecution and cruelty, back to the wild. I'm running my first (and probably last!) Half Marathon at the end of April to help make a small contribution to her Herculean efforts. Any contribution will help save our beleaguered birds of prey - thank you for anything!

9 months agoSo while I was shuffling to the end of an 18km training run yesterday, thanks to you fine folk we passed our £4000 target! Amazing, and I can't thank the hundreds of you who've donated so far enough - imagine what the wonderful Jean can do for raptors and other wildlife with all that cash! And it's with your blessing that I'm going to raise the bar, again. I appreciate many of the good people I'm fortunate to know (and plenty I don't) have already coughed up - but with plenty of time still on the clock before the half marathon, why not?!

9 months agoHeartfelt thanks to everybody who's donated so far - it's incredible, and it's having the desired effect by inspiring / guilting me to keep up with the training plan! Talking of which, with four weeks to go, I'm in deep - three or four runs a week (plus cross-training), one of which is a long one. I've upped my distance to 15km last weekend (with no major physical issues, apart from being totally knackered!), and this weekend hopefully 16km, and so on.... I'll keep you posted! (Pic - beach run last week from Filey to Speeton Cliffs)

9 months agoAmazing - as of today (15th March), we're at a whopping £3470 and it just keeps rising...! Thanks so much to each and every one of you - I look at every individual donation and send telepathic appreciation each time! Training is going well so far, with six-ish weeks to go - it's getting more intensive and daunting every week, but so far so good.
