Story

The Ramsdell collection is a unique group of military communications vehicles and supporting exhibits that need YOUR help.

The collection includes two vehicles from the Ptarmigan communications system, which was the world’s first mobile digital communications system. This was the precursor to mobile networks that you use today. The display is manned by veterans who used Ptarmigan during the cold war and share their knowledge and stories not just with other veterans but also with members of the public.

The two vehicles, an armoured SAS/MC and Bedford Radio Relay are the most complete examples in existence today. As such we are a unique educational asset telling the story of British Army cold war communications in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

But we need your assistance…

We need to raise a minimum of £2,000 urgently to help fund the transport and running costs of the vehicles from their home to the Chalke History Festival where, in the past, we have proved to be one of the major attractions, or to a similar festival if this is not possible.

We do not charge for our attendance and in previous years we have self funded the costs but this is now becoming a financial burden that we cannot absorb.

Your £2,000 will help us transport the SAS/MC and Bedford radio relay as well as two other armoured vehicles, an FV432 command post and a CVRT Sultan to the festival and return them home.

The Chalke History Festival runs from 24th June to the 30th June and is the premium history festival in the country, more details can be found here .

If any veterans are attending Chalke history festival, feel free to pop by for a chat, bang your head on some armour, feel the power of the mighty SLR and inhale the heady aroma of wet canvas.

STOP THE PRESS !!!

We've been invited to the Summer Sales Festival - Royal Signals reunion at Kemble airport in Gloucestershire. Depending on funding, we're hoping to take along the SAS/MC, Sultan, Bedford radio relay and a Saracen.
