Story
Hello, firstly I would like to thank you for clicking through to my ‘Just Giving page’ you’re half way there!
This summer, I will be embarking on a journey up the length of India in a seven horsepower glorified lawnmower, otherwise known as a Rickshaw. This 3000km treacherous adventure will begin in the city of Kochi and finish in Jaisalmer. The Rickshaw Run is easily the least sensible thing to do with two weeks and will seriously test our strengths and weaknesses but (hopefully) leave us with a sense of achievement. This is a risk I am willing to indulge to help bring awareness and funding to the Calvert Trust.
Just over ten years ago I lost my Mother to Multiple Sclerosis. During her final years, my mother was wheel chair bound; this limited her independence and restricted what we could do as a family. Fortunately, The Calvert Trust provided us with the opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities and more importantly, time together as a family. I want to raise awareness of the Calvert Trust so they can provide these same opportunities to as many other families as possible. This charity not only provided my family with quality time together but also changed my mother’s outlook on life, which was a joy to see before she passed.
The team at Calvert provide outdoor activity courses for people of all ages with a wide variety of disabilities. Its mission is to challenge disability through outdoor adventure. Using specialist equipment adaptations and intensive instructor led activity programmes they are able to put on activities such as climbing, abseiling, canoeing, sailing, paragliding and much more. All the instructors are highly trained and the facilities are accessible to all. This trust provides life-changing experiences for those with disabilities and encourages them to believe that that it’s what you CAN do that counts.
Thank you for taking the time to read about this fantastic charity, any donations, big or small, will be greatly appreciated.
