Story
Michael Donlan and Mark Ibison will walk the 67 miles of a recently-instituted pilgrimage route from St Peter's Cathedral in Lancaster to the diocesan shrine of Our Lady in Cleator, West Cumbria, passing through the rugged and beautiful Lake District. They will be arriving in time for the annual pilgrimage Mass on Sunday the 10th of September.
Michael and Mark are two trustees of the Rwanda Group Trust, a small Preston-based registered charity, founded by Joe Bamber who was a local schoolteacher.
The aim of Rwanda Group Trust is to alleviate poverty at the very lowest levels in Rwanda through a network of local committees. We help in the areas of health, education, food and shelter. We are independent of government bodies and politicians. RGT is now over 25 years old.

1 year agoOn Sunday 10th September our pilgrimage ended at Cleator, after following quiet paths from Ennerdale Bridge down the River Ehen valley (see photo at Wath Bridge). We were pleased to be accompanied by local parishioner and author of the Walk, Peter Robinson, and his son. Thankfully the forecast very heavy rain kept off until the evening, although Mass, celebrated by the Bishop, was held in church rather than the Grotto, just in case.

1 year agoDay 5 saw us on our way out of Borrowdale via Honister Pass, crossing a high path into the wilds of Ennerdale with just a brief rain shower. Passing Black Sail YHA hostel in the valley, we met groups of 'Coast-to-Coast' walkers heading the other way, then a rough passage to the south of Ennerdale Water followed (see Michael rounding Anglers' Crag). Meeting Fr Peter's car at Ennerdale Bridge, we were quickly back to our own car again near Keswick. Just one more short leg left now to Cleator!

1 year agoOn Day 4 of our walk starting from Skelwith Bridge, we reached the highest point at 1576 feet on Stake Pass (see photo of Michael at the cairn). It was a steady climb but the worst of the forecast rain held off until mid-afternoon, when we were well down the Langstrath valley and nearing our destination of Stonethwaite. As we were passing, the opportunity to test the waters of famous 'Blackmoss Pot' swimming spot just had to be taken!
