Story
We are planning to help the Middlesbrough Powerchair Football Club raise enough money in order to supply them with at least one new Powerchair; by doing this we hope to encourage individuals with disabilities to become more active through Power Football. The club, based in the Tees Valley, helps people aged 5-69 years old.
As a College there are a few staff and students who are A. Disabled or B. Have disabled friends and/or family members. As a college we are trying to represent our community and would like to help aid people in:
Becoming more Active.
Developing their social skills.
Developing their team building skills.
Becoming part of a team with their interests at heart.
Having the opportunity to travel.
Making sure that people in the Tees Valley area are aware of it's diverse population.
Middlesbrough Powerchair football Club enables people with physical disabilities from Middlesbrough and surrounding areas to have the opportunity to play football.
When we reach our desired amount we are hoping to buy one, if not more, Powerchairs for the club to use with disadvantaged players; we are also hoping to raise enough money to purchase some more training balls and strips.
Powerchair football is the only fast paced team sport that people with severe physical disabilities can play. Before taking up powerchair football most players had never had the opportunity to be part of an athletic team or feel the rush of euphoria from scoring a goal. Many players have a life limiting condition that means they use a powerchair for mobility and need assistance for all personal care, many have never walked and so have never been able to play football.
