The clock fell into disrepair and became unsafe, therefore it had to be removed. We, as a group, are working alongside Southend Museums Service in order to raise enough funds for its full restoration and re-instatement in the original position above the former R A Jones , jewellers shop in Southend High Street. The clock was a well-loved and memorable sight, and also provided a valuable service, advising the precise time at all hours, it was often a meeting point, people agreeing to meet "under the Jones clock". R A Jones, himself was the greatest benefactor the town has ever known and it is fitting and timely that the people of Southend should give back this to him at this time as 2017 marks the centenary of his biggest gift to the town, Priory Park.
