Some people close to me might know that on the 3rd of May last year my little cousin Preston unfortunately took his own life at the young age of 14.

When Preston was little he was like a brother to me, and anyone that ever met him will agree that he was such a cheery, loving boy to everyone until he left, even though he was struggling so much.

For the rest of my life I will always know that Preston was, and forever will be, the strongest person I’ve ever known and for the past few months I’ve been thinking about how it could’ve been different and regrets of not knowing what was going through his head. I’ve been thinking about what I could do to try and do something in his honour.

So I have decided to try with the help of my family to host a charity football match in an attempt to raise funds for Shirley’s Space. Shirley’s space is a mental health charity based in Crimond, where myself and our family had so many happy memories with Preston, and a few of their members were at Preston’s celebration of life back in October. They do a lot of local work in the aim of helping people’s mental health and have helped many people struggling with thoughts and addressing the stigma that still surround mental health problems.

The current plan is to host the game at Buchanhaven Hearts football pitch in Peterhead on Sunday 9th of June, with a massive thanks to Bob Buchan and Buchanhaven Hearts for allowing this to be played here with the potential for the social too if there were enough people interested.
