Story
Hi, Sami is 22 years old and she has suffered with type 1 diabetes since the age of 2. Over the past 3 years various health problems have caused her to go blind but the main culprit being diabetes. Diabetes is a horrific disease that people dont often see the harsher side of and dont understand what it is like to actually live with. it is especially hard for Sami to control now that she has lost most of her vision and is also needle phobic. Before meeting Sami i had never seen what diabetes does to a person first hand and have learned a lot since we met and about the struggle she goes though every day.
In 2015 Sami graduated with a First class degree in Fashion, her work was recognised at Graduate Fashion week, London Alternative Fashion week, on Arts Thread and was chosen to be entered in a few competitions. She became runner up in diversity now with arts thread and won young designer of the year. In April 2016 she completed a 3 months internship in Berlin, on returning she was motivated and inspired to start her own brand at a studio in Norwich. however come the end of may Sami's vision had began to deteriorate and by September her dream of becoming a designer had been ruined.
Her career was everything to her but she now struggles to do even the simplest of things that myself and everyone take for granted like pouring a drink, making food, communicating and reading a book. You ever tried eating a meal with your eyes closed or just listening to a film? Sami gets upset because she cant see what her dog looks like. The worst thing for me is that she cant read anything because when i first met her she literally read everything. she will never be able to hold a physical book and read it ever again and this is why I need your help.
The Orcam enables Sami to read again, it will give her, her life back. Rather than explain please watch this video below. anything donated will go towards an Orcam for sami.
