Story

The team here at Old Railway Line Garden Centre have selected two charities to raise funds for this year in support of friends and families who we know are personally suffering in our local area.

#BeMoreFrank is a special named fund of the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust and raises funds in Franks name to provide financial assistance to families with a child diagnosed with cancer in our local area, your contribution will make a huge difference to families going through the toughest of times.

The goal of Ewings Sarcoma Research Trust (Bone Cancer Research Trust) is to improve the treatment of Ewing's Sarcoma and patient outcomes. Each year around 2,400 teenagers and young adults are diagnosed with cancer. Approximately 88 of these patients will have primary bone cancer and must deal with the impact of treatment on top of the complex challenges that they already face.

What are we doing?

We’re lacing up our hiking boots as we challenge ourselves to a 15-mile long adventure over the Brecon Beacons. For many of us, this will be a first-time experience and the anticipation is … as we prepare to tackle this challenging trek which will span roughly 12 hours. But with every step, we’re fuelled by the shared sense of commitment and the knowledge that our efforts will make a meaningful difference.

The Route: Our journey begins at Story Arms, where we’ll ascend to the majestic peaks of Corn Du, Pen y Fan, Cribyn and Fan y Big. From there we’ll continue along the trail to Craig y Fan Ddu, where we’ll descend briefly before climbing back up to Graig Fan Ddu. Next, we’ll trek along the ridge before descending to our final stop at Pont Ar Daf.

As we navigate the rugged terrain and conquer each summit, we’ll be raising vital funds for #BeMoreFrank and Ewings Sarcoma Research Trust to support their incredible work in supporting families and researching into teenage and young persons cancer.

Every donation, no matter how small, will spur us on and bring us closer to our fundraising goal. Together we can make a difference one step at a time. Stay tuned via our social media for updates as we embark on this unforgettable adventure!🏞️🥾 #TeamORLGC #HikingForACause
