I am trying to help my daughter Millee, a 9 year old girl who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 6.
Her consultant has recommended that she needs a continual blood glucose meter called a Libre, that would hopefully eliminate her having to prick her fingers so many times a day. This would mean so much to her as her fingers are starting to develop hard black spots from over use as her fingers are so small.
Unfortunately these are considered a luxury at the moment on the NHS and are not funded. However, she has been very lucky to have been given 1 of 3 Libre, that were allocated to Hinchinbrookes pediatric diabeties team. However the sensors will cost between £120 a month, as these are also not currently funded on the NHS.
She currently has recieved funding for a Medtronic insulin pump, this in the majority eliminates the need to inject her with insulin on average 5x a day, that needs to be replaced every 3 years. She qualifies for funding until she is 14, then they will cost £3000 a go.
