Story

The Mental Health Football Association promote the use of football for those affected by mental ill health, we promote all organisations that do so and encourage and support all who wish too. We also host our own 6-a-side League Cup tournaments giving teams from around the UK a wonderful opportunity not just to make new friends and play competitive football but to create something special that will live with them forever. The inaugural tournament attracted approximately 160 players from throughout the UK, we plan to replicate this 16 team tournament every three months around the UK starting with Glasgow, Swindon, Belfast, Wrexham and so on, our goal is to visit every major city and town around the UK.

In order to ensure we reach our goals we need to raise enough funds to cover such as pitch hire, trophies, medals, match officials, food and drink, balls, bibs and tournament souvenir programmes.

An insight into Football Therapy

Returning to play football at 46 years old straight out of a psychiatric unit because of suicidal thoughts not only changed my live forever it saved my life too. I am bipolar, I still have serious bouts of depression and mania but my work within the mental health football sector helps me to cope, football has given me so much, I want to use football to help as many people as possible, I want to inspire those affected by mental illness, I believe that through the Mental Health Football Association we can save lives."
