As the appointed Mayor of Swindon for 2024/25, I have picked two charities to help support during my Mayoral Year. These are BEST - Be a Better You and Changing Suits.

BEST – Be a Better You is a small registered charity who supports at-risk children aged 11 to 25 through sports mentoring and fun sessions, to boost confidence and steer them in the right direction. BEST offer personalised help, all-round development, and ongoing support. By teaming up with the community, schools, and businesses, we provide much needed opportunities for the children to grow. We also focus on mental health and making sure children feel empowered, listened to and valued. Our goal is to give children who don’t have access to the opportunities, the skills and encouragement they need to thrive. With our friendly approach, a team with lived experiences, and strong support network, BEST is here to make a real difference in their lives.

CHANGING SUITS is a non-profit organisation committed to bringing to light the stories of South Asian and ethnic minority groups that often go unheard.They create spaces where these stories are celebrated, helping to break down barriers between different cultures and promote understanding. They work closely with community support services to better connect with the South Asian community, making these services more caring and inclusive.Through active advocacy and partnership, Changing Suits aims to shape policies and change social norms, ensuring that every story improves the way communities support each other. Their goal is to create a world where diversity is seen as a strength that unites us all.
