    Story

    MALION

A critical retelling of the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea. This modern adaptation takes a fresh feminist approach focusing on the development of male identity through the objectification and sexualisation of women.

Malion, a sculptor, is presenting his latest work to his male friends, a statue of the most beautiful woman in creation. After labouring over the statue, searching for love’s representation inside a rock, he has achieved his goal. Now finished, he rejoices in his achievement over drinks where the men discuss the merits of his work. However, the conversation cannot seem to move away from the femininity and lustful nature they see exhibited in the statue. Meanwhile, brought to life by Aphrodite’s kiss, the statue awakens and is granted personhood as Galatea, who must watch as the man who made her begins to change, falling in line with his comrades and forgetting his pure vision of love. Will Malion see Galatea or fall into the ranks of masculine identity?

    Who are Tired Horses?

Innovative, daring and original, you won't be feeling tired!

Born out of the frustration with contemporary British politics and the status quo. Tired Horses Theatre was created to deliver new writing that seeks to challenge established norms in our society.

Passionate about social justice, we want to use theatre to have difficult conversations and encourage debate on neglected issues. We are particularly interested in exploring themes of class, feminism and hate.

Putting our shared love of theatre to use, we want to bring you fresh works that unsettle and inspire - confronting the present to encourage action to a better future.

So... it's been a while! The show is going very well, two weeks in with one to go! We've had such a lovely response to our play. Audiences have been so positive and encouraging of our engagement with the subject matter. We have had three four star reviews from the media all with very complimentary words. It's all fabulous here at Tired Horses Theatre! We just want to take this opportunity to once again thank all our supporters! You've all helped to make this possible and we really appreciate you all! So thank you very much!!!
